Our craft is largely self-taught, influenced by studies in fine art, ceramics, design, and the natural sciences. The education never ceases.
Growing up in South Florida, we learned to love and enjoy the environment - and more important, to respect it. Traveling extensively throughout the Americas and abroad, we came to understand the importance of preservation. We produced our first piece of furniture in Oregon of slash pine, the cuttings left behind by the logging industry. Back home in Miami, we gathered up driftwood and turned it into a table. That was the start of Steckley Woodcrafts.
New woods were gathered, new designs created, new skills applied. The original concept remained: Respect nature, conserve what it gives us, apply talents wisely to enhance the beauty of nature itself. We seek to reflect the quiet elegance of nature. Our forms are simple, yet refined. And they are functional, for we never forget that quality furniture is meant to be used, not simply admired.
We hope that the pieces crafted in our workshop will remain with the families that purchase them and eventually passed along to subsequent generations.
